What You See Is What You Get
Stylophora
Stylophora is a small-polyp stony coral (SPS) that grows in a branching form, from the Family Pocilloporidae. It is commonly referred to as Cat's Paw Coral. Not one of the most common SPS, apart from the lilac coloration, commonly called milka, like chocolate, however, they are a great addition to any high-light, high-flow reef system. Please see below for more care tips for Stylophora.
Location
Indo-Pacific: islands in the Indo-Pacific, including Fiji, Tonga, the Solomon Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef.
Lighting
Medium to strong lighting is recommended to achieve the best coloration of Stylophoras. Stylos will display their best coloration when kept under high-intensity LEDs.
Low Light |
Low light is between 30 and 50 PAR per unit area |
Medium Light |
Medium light is between 50 - 150 PAR per unit area |
High Light |
High light is above 150 PAR per unit area |
Water Flow
Strong water circulation is recommended. Stylophora is typically found in nature in areas of very strong current. As the colony grows, it's important for it to receive a good water flow to the inner part of the colony, as otherwise, that area may stagnate or even begin to become diseased.
Feeding
Like most SPS, Stylophora is highly dependent on its zooxanthellae for nutrition, but also feeds on phytoplankton and similarly-sized microfauna present in the water column.
