Plagiomnium sp. 'Thyme Moss' is a lush terrestrial moss with a look reminiscent of a small fern, ideal for building detailed forest-floor scenery in closed terrariums and vivariums.

Its larger, well-defined rounded or tongue-shaped leaves resemble tiny thyme plants or miniature tropical trees. Creeping and spreading, it forms a dense, stable green carpet held in place by a fuzzy network of rhizoids that anchors it to substrate and hardscape.

It is a remarkably resilient moss: it rehydrates quickly when misted and has the curious ability to crumple its leaves as it dries, springing back to its full glory as soon as moisture returns.

In the wild, Plagiomnium cuspidatum grows at the base of trunks, stumps, decaying wood and rocks in moist, nutrient-rich places such as wet meadows, forested peatlands and humid woodlands. That origin explains how easily it adapts to high-humidity setups, which also makes it a great companion for clean-up fauna and bioactive projects.

It prefers low to medium light and constant humidity, with good air circulation in very enclosed terrariums. Place small portions between stones and wood or along the foreground to create a natural effect that fills in beautifully over time.

Key facts: terrarium moss; easy-medium difficulty; slow-moderate growth; foreground or hardscape placement; creeping and spreading habit; low-medium light; high humidity; terrarium or paludarium environment.
