Rotala wallichii is an elegant stem plant native to soft, slightly acidic waters in Southeast Asia. Its inflorescence has bright purple flowers. Although not very easy to cultivate, it is a very popular plant.

R. wallichii needs a lot of light, CO2 fertilization and a well-balanced supply of nutrients to grow well. Light intensity should be at least 0.5 watts per liter to achieve intense colors and support growth. A good CO2 supply is essential, whether with bio CO2 or pressurized tank system. Rotala wallichii grows best if nitrate levels never drop to zero, but also do not exceed 10-15 mg per liter. A high phosphate content of 1-2 mg per liter is preferred, as well as a good supply of iron and micronutrients
