Bubble Corals Family

Bubble Corals get their name from their distinctive bubble tentacles that inflate with water. They have a slightly translucent appearance and can grow to a very large size when provided under ideal conditions. They are a very hardy large polyp hard coral and can be kept in mixed reefs as well as coral systems designed especially for LPS corals.

Commonly known as the Pearl Bubble Coral, Physogyra Lichtensteinii is distinguished by its fleshy vesicles that are on display throughout the day providing refuge for various marine invertebrates including shrimp.

Origin

They are found in tropical waters on reefs throughout the Indo-Pacific, from the Red Sea to the tropical Western Pacific.

Light

Pearl Bubble Corals do not require as much light as many other corals. It can be kept in dim light without much difficulty. In some cases, Physogyra lichtensteinii can spread more easily under low lighting, however, they can display more attractive colors when placed under brighter lighting.

Low Light	Low light translates to about 30-50 PAR
Medium Light	Medium Light is between 50-150 PAR
High Light	High Light is anything over 150 PAR

Water Flow

Moderate to strong water movement is recommended. One of the main attractions of this type of LPS coral is how it oscillates with the current. Water flow is healthy for Physogyra lichtensteinii and makes it aesthetically pleasing. It is important that the flow does not remain constant in one direction.

Feed

Like most corals, Physogyra is largely dependent on its zooxanthellae, however, it also benefits from direct feeding. Pearl Bubble Corals don't seem to feed as aggressively as other LPS.
