More info

FritzZyme® 7 Freshwater is a specialized formulation containing live strains of freshwater-specific nitrifying bacteria. These bacteria have been proven to effectively reduce fish loss caused by toxic levels of ammonia and nitrite. In new aquariums, it can take weeks for nitrifying bacteria to naturally establish colonies, while ammonia and nitrite can reach lethal levels within days. FritzZyme® 7 provides a balanced blend of bacteria that rapidly seed biofilters, significantly reducing the natural cycle time and allowing for the safe and expedited addition of livestock.

You can add FritzZyme® 7 to new tanks or established systems whenever the biofilter needs fortification. This includes situations such as after water changes, aggressive cleaning, introduction of new livestock, medication, or changing of filter media.

Why should you add nitrifying bacteria? Nitrifying bacteria take a considerable amount of time to establish colonies naturally in new aquariums, while ammonia and nitrite can become lethal within a short period. FritzZyme® Live Nitrifying Bacteria contains the species of bacteria that have been proven by professional zoos, aquariums, universities, and aquaculture facilities to rapidly seed biofilters. FritzZyme® effectively eliminates toxic ammonia and nitrite in existing systems, greatly reducing the cycle time and enabling the immediate and safe addition of livestock in new systems. You can also add FritzZyme® Nitrifying bacteria whenever the biofilter needs reinforcement, such as after water changes, aggressive cleaning, introduction of new livestock, medication, or changing of filter media.

Live and Viable Product Unlike certain heterotrophic bacteria that can survive in a spore state for extended periods, only true nitrifying bacteria are capable of cycling an aquarium. True nitrifying bacteria are delicate and sensitive to temperature, making their production and packaging challenging. FritzZyme® 7 is specially buffered to ensure long-term stability without the need for refrigeration.

Years of Proven Success For over 30 years, Fritz Aquatics has been consistently producing the highest quality and viable nitrifying bacteria. It was the first company to commercially produce nitrifying bacteria for the aquarium industry. Fritz Aquatics remains a leader in the industry, continuously conducting research, production, and development. There are very few producers of true live nitrifying bacteria, none of which can match the experience and success of FritzZyme®.

Directions & Dosage For new systems, dose 4 oz (119 ml / ½ cup) per 10 US gallons (38 L). For established systems, use 2 oz (60 ml / ¼ cup) per 10 US gallons (38 L). In large livestock systems or systems with a heavy bioload, the dosage for new systems can be safely increased up to 10 times.

For optimal results, maintain the ideal water parameters listed below and use FritzZyme® 7 before the expiration date on the package. Ensure that all chlorine and chloramines are removed from the water before adding FritzZyme® 7. Nitrifying bacteria require ammonia and nitrite to survive. In new systems, introduce livestock or another ammonia source, such as Fishless Fuel, to initiate the cycling process. Maintain adequate water flow or aeration. Discontinue the use of skimmers and UV sterilizers for at least 5 days after application. No contraindications: FritzZyme® 7 can be used with all of our other products and medications. Safe for use with all species, including plants and invertebrates. Can be added directly into a tank with livestock present. Will not cause discoloration or cloudiness in aquarium water. Variations in odor and color between bottles are normal. A strong sulfur smell does not indicate that the bacteria are dead. Do not freeze or overheat. Store in a cool, dark place. Overdosed? Live nitrifying bacteria are very safe, even if overdosed. Monitor for any signs of distress and perform small water changes if necessary.

Ideal parameters for FritzZyme® 7 nitrifying bacteria: Temperature: 77-86°F (25-30°C) pH: 7.3-8.0; nitrification is completely inhibited below pH 6.0 Salinity: 0-6 ppt (1.000 to 1.0045 sg); active up to 15 ppt (1.011 sg) Alkalinity (KH): minimum 4.5 dKH or 80.5 ppm KH Phosphate: above 0 ppm
