What You See Is What You Get

Caulastrea / Curvata (Green Flour)

Caulastrea is commonly referred to as Candy Cane Corals or Trumpet Corals.

They are a fast-growing LPS coral and can quickly form a large colony in the aquarium, where each polyp grows an additional mouth, separating into two polyps. They are considered one of the hardiest corals, making them beginner-friendly.

See below for more care tips for candy corals.

Location

Caulastrea or Candy Cane Corals are found throughout the Indo-Pacific and the Great Barrier Reef.

Lighting

They do not require a lot of lighting. Medium to low lighting is a good bet. They maintain consistent coloration regardless of the type of lighting provided.

Low light

Low light is between 30 - 50 PAR per unit area

Medium light

Medium light is between 50 - 150 PAR per unit area

Intense light

Intense light is above 150 PAR per unit area

Water Flow

Moderate water movement is recommended for this coral. LPS, like candy canes, appreciate enough flow to bring in food and remove the coral's film and mucus, but it's important not to blast them with too much force.

Feeding

Like many other LPS, Candy corals can be fed a mix of meaty foods such as mysis or krill. We don't strive to feed these corals too much, but it can be easily done. Candy corals extend their feeding tentacles when they detect food in the water.
