Rhodactis Mushroom Coral - Green (4 Polyps)

One of the easiest and most beautiful corals you can get! Rhodactis mushrooms are a great choice for beginner hobbyists looking to add hardy additions to their reef aquarium, as well as experienced collectors seeking to add a potentially rare piece to their tank. These coral morphs come in a wide variety of colors and patterns, some of which are highly sought after by reef enthusiasts. The truth is that the most expensive coral on the market currently is a variety of Rhodactis called the Bounce Mushroom. Fortunately for most hobbyists, the vast majority of these mushrooms are very reasonably priced.

See below for additional care tips for Rhodactis.

What You See Is What You Get

Location

Rhodactis corallimorphs, commonly referred to as "hairy mushrooms," are found throughout the Indo-Pacific. They are commonly harvested from Indo-Pacific islands, including Fiji, Tonga, the Solomon Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef.

Lighting

We typically keep our Rhodactis mushrooms in places with **low light/weak light**. Mushrooms, in general, do not respond favorably to extremely bright light and, in some cases, can develop white scars as a result of oxidative radicals on their bodies.

Low light

Low light is between 30 - 50 PAR per unit area

Medium light

Medium light is between 50 - 150 PAR per unit area

Intense light

Intense light is above 150 PAR per unit area

Water Flow

We recommend keeping the mushrooms in a **relatively low flow** area of your reef. Too much flow can stress this particular species and prevent them from fully extending. Some of the best extensions we see in mushrooms are due to low flow.

Feeding

Rhodactis mushrooms can be fed. Some species feed more aggressively than others, but most accept meaty foods. Very large (and rarer) Rhodactis varieties, like the Elephant Ear variety, can consume fish by stunning them as they swim nearby and swallowing them while they sleep. In the case of the specimen above, there is no danger to your reef's inhabitants!
