Seriatopora Green Tips
One of a kind - "WYSIWYG"!
What You See Is What You Get
Bird's Nest corals are fast-growing SPS corals. They thrive in strong flow, however, when it comes to lighting it varies from colony to colony. Our experience indicates that varieties with pink colors require more intense lighting conditions than others. In fact, the "bird's nest" as a general rule prefers medium, soft lighting without too intense shadows. These corals assume incredible colors and can be easily and sustainably propagated.
Location
Indo-Pacific: islands in the Indo-Pacific, including Fiji, Tonga, the Solomon Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef.
Lighting
Strong lighting is recommended for better coloration and overall health. Use high-power fluorescent LEDs or full-spectrum lighting or T5 lighting. Seriatopora can survive under modest medium lighting, but brighter colors may suffer.
Low light |
Low light is between 30 and 50 PARs per unit area |
Medium light |
Medium light is between 50 - 150 PARs per unit area |
Heavy light |
Intense light is above 150 PAR per unit area |
Water Flow
Strong water movement is recommended. As the bird's nest grows, it needs more and more flow to reach the polyps in the center of the colony.
Feeding
Like most SPS, Seriatopora is highly dependent on its zooxanthellae for feeding, but it also feeds on phytoplankton and similarly sized microfauna present in the water column.
