More info

The NeoMedia PREMIUM line is one of the highest-quality filter materials on the market, designed to enhance and maximize the efficiency of existing products.

It contains an internal surface area (porosity) of up to 3200 m2/L, far surpassing its main competitors.

This article corresponds to the PURE version, a neutral version that has no effect on the aquarium's pH.

It's important to note that bacteria are the primary source of filtration in our aquariums, and filtration efficiency depends on the number of bacteria that the filter media can accommodate, which is limited. Therefore, greater porosity means more bacteria, resulting in more efficient filtration and a cleaner, healthier aquarium.

In the PREMIUM line, various pore sizes have been created to provide space for different types of bacteria, maintaining the stability of the biological filtration cycle in the aquarium.

Thanks to AquaRIO's technology, a very fine pore, free of obstructions, allows water to flow smoothly into the tubes, providing nutrients and oxygen to the bacteria.

Being the PURE version, it doesn't affect the aquarium's pH, making it suitable for planted aquariums or situations where pH control is desired externally.

Another noteworthy feature is that NeoMEDIA is made from stable and durable materials that won't degrade in the filter, such as silica, alumina, potassium oxide, or iron oxide, among others.

Additionally, to achieve this hardness, stability, and durability in the aquarium, NeoMEDIA is manufactured through a five-stage process. First, the components are mixed, followed by two molding stages. Next comes a drying stage, and finally, a high-temperature processing stage is maintained over time until high-quality, uniform pores are achieved.

USAGE INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Rinse with running water before placing NEO Media in the filter.

2) The effects on pH of Neo Media Premium may be influenced by the water used or elements within the aquarium.

3) Periodic cleaning is recommended to prevent saturation. This should always be done with aquarium water to avoid harming the bacterial colony. Replacement every two years is advisable.

4) Keep out of reach of children.

5) Due to the use of natural materials, the shape, size, or color may vary slightly among different tubes.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT NEOMEDIA SIZES - WHICH SIZE TO CHOOSE?

Over time, biological filter media with irregular or spherical shapes tend to saturate and accumulate sludge. This results in a drastic reduction in the flow of water provided by the filter, reducing its filtering capacity.

NEOMedia from AquaRIO, thanks to its trilobular morphology, unique in the market so far, reduces this saturation, allowing the filtering capacity to be maintained for a longer period without the need for cleaning.

In the past, NEOMedia was sold in two sizes, M and L, but since September 2022, it has been offered in five different sizes: Mini, S, M, L, and XL, with shapes and sizes as shown in the image below:

NOTE: The XL size is what was previously sold as size L.

In summary, the larger the tube size, the more water flow can pass between the gaps, and the smaller the size, the more surface area is available for bacteria to colonize.

Therefore, a larger size is suitable for the part of the filter where water passes first, and smaller sizes are suitable for later stages.

Thus, an appropriate configuration could be as follows:

Our personal recommendation when choosing a size is:

1) In small filters (any internal or hang-on-back filter, or small external filters), or if you don't want to mix different sizes, use only the M SIZE. This is the size that has been marketed so far and has yielded excellent results for those who have used it. In our opinion, it has the perfect size to strike a balance between available surface for bacterial colonization and space for water flow.

2) If you have a large sump or external filter with several baskets and want to mix different sizes, create a configuration as shown in the image above, with the first basket using size L, the middle baskets with size M, and the final one with a mix of sizes S and Mini.

3) The XL size should generally be reserved for very large aquariums with sumps or ponds, as it is quite large.
