The SOFT version of NeoMedia has an acidic nature, which is why it prevents the pH of our aquarium from increasing and can even decrease it slightly. Therefore it is ideal for planted aquariums, shrimp or South American fish.
Example of pH test. 1L of NeoMedia SOFT has been added to 10L of water. After 20 days a decrease of 1 point in pH has been seen.
We must keep in mind that bacteria are the main source of filtration in our aquariums and that the filtration efficiency depends on the number of bacteria that our filter material can house, whose space is limited, therefore the more porosity, the more bacteria and therefore both more efficient filtration that will result in a cleaner and healthier aquarium.
In the PREMIUM line, various pore sizes have been generated that will serve as space to house different types of bacteria that will keep the aquarium's biological filtration cycle stable.
Thanks to the technology used by AquaRIO, a very fine but unclogged pore has been obtained which allows water to flow smoothly into the eclairs, providing nutrients and oxygen to the bacteria.
Another notable feature is that NeoMEDIA is manufactured from stable and hard materials that will not degrade in our filter such as Silicon Oxide, Alumina, Potassium Oxide or Iron Oxide among others.
Additionally, to achieve this hardness, stability and durability in the aquarium, NeoMEDIA is manufactured using a five-stage process, first the components are mixed and then proceed to two molding stages. Next comes a drying stage to finally reach a high temperature processing stage that is maintained over time until high quality and uniform pores are achieved.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
1) Rinse under running water before inserting the NEO Media into the filter.
2) The effects on the pH of Neo Media Premium may be affected by the water used or by the elements located inside the urn.
3) Periodic cleaning is recommended to avoid saturation. This should always be done with aquarium water so as not to damage the bacterial colony. It is recommended to replace it every two years.
4) Keep out of reach of children.
5) Due to the use of natural materials, the shape, size or color may differ slightly between various beads.
NOTE: Inside your NEO Media SOFT package you will find a small bag with black spheres like the ones in the image above. This is a contribution of dormant bacteria that will be activated after contact with water and will help shorten the completion time of the nitrification cycle. It is important that you DO NOT wash the contents of the bag and place it in your filter between the Neo Media tubes.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT NEOMEDIA SIZES - WHAT SIZE TO CHOOSE?
Over time, irregular or sphere-shaped biological filter materials tend to become saturated and accumulate sludge. This results in the flow rate provided by the filter being drastically reduced, thereby reducing its filtering capacity.
NEOMedia from AquaRIO, thanks to its trilobular morphology, unique on the market today, ensures that this saturation is lower so the filtration capacity will be maintained for longer without the need for cleaning.
In the past, NEOMedia was sold in two sizes, M and L, but since September 2022 it has been offered in five different sizes, Mini, S, M, L and XL with the shapes and sizes in the image below:
NOTE: Size XL is the one that was previously sold as size L.
In summary, the larger the size of the comb, the greater the flow of water that can pass through the gaps between them. On the other hand, the smaller the size, the greater the surface area per liter available for bacteria to nest.
Therefore, a large size will be suitable for that area of the filter where the water passes first and small sizes for the last stages.

Personally our advice when choosing one size or another is:
1) In small filters (Any internal or backpack ones or small external ones) or if we do not want to get overly complicated by mixing different sizes we would exclusively introduce SIZE M. This is the size that has been marketed until now and how good results it has given to those who have tried it. In our opinion, it has the perfect size to achieve a balance between the surface available to be colonized by the bacteria and the space available for the water flow to circulate.
2) If we have a sump or a large external filter with many baskets and we want to mix different sizes, we would make a configuration like the one in the image above, with the first basket through which the water passes with size L, the central ones with size M and the final one. with a mix of size S and size Mini.
3) In principle we would reserve the XL size only for very large aquariums with Sump or for a pond since it is quite large.
