Oryzias latipes Tomoki is a selected variety of Medaka (Ricefish) of Japanese origin. This Tomoki variety presents a unique combination of vibrant colors that make it extremely decorative in any planted aquarium.

Best kept in a heavily planted layout, preferably with a dark substrate, patches of dense vegetation and some open swimming areas. Twisted roots, branches and surface vegetation are greatly appreciated by this species.

When kept in these conditions, they display their best colors and planted aquariums offer the fry a more favorable chance of survival alongside adults.

It is a micropredator that feeds on small insects, larvae, crustaceans and zooplankton in nature. In the aquarium, it accepts appropriately sized dried foods, good quality floating flakes or micro granules, as well as small live and frozen foods.

Very easy to breed and prolific, with females capable of producing batches of eggs every few days when in good condition. Spawning usually occurs in the early morning.
