Behavior & Compatibility:
A peaceful and social species, ideal for community tanks with small, non-aggressive fish. Should be kept in groups of at least 6 individuals to encourage natural behavior and reduce stress.
Diet:
Omnivorous. Feeds on biofilm, algae, and organic matter in the aquarium. Can be supplemented with shrimp-specific foods, blanched vegetables, and occasional protein sources like mosquito larvae.
Reproduction:
Egg-layer. Females carry eggs under their abdomen until they hatch into fully formed juveniles. The presence of moss and plants helps increase the survival rate of the offspring.
Sexual Dimorphism:
Females are slightly larger and display more intense coloration. They may also show a visible "saddle" before carrying eggs under their abdomen.
Biotope:
Found in slow-moving freshwater streams and lakes with dense vegetation and sandy or muddy substrates.
Etymology:
Caridina is a genus of freshwater shrimps in the Atyidae family. The term cf. indicates a provisional identification similar to babaulti. "Stripes" refers to the characteristic striped pattern of this variety.
