More info
It has a very wide natural range. There are confirmed populations in Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and Argentina. Occurrences in Paraguay and Uruguay are apparently unconfirmed.
It inhabits a variety of biotopes, from large rivers and lakes to flooded forest areas. Supposedly, it is often found in slower-paced habitats than many large Pimelodids.
Dimensions: 41.6″ (104cm) and up to 70kg in weight!
We recommend an aquarium of at least 360cm x 240cm x 120cm - 10,000+ liters, the minimum required for an adult fish. Even that wouldn't give him room to swim as he would in the wild.
Decoration is not necessary for an aquarium with adult fish, as long as the lighting is very dim. However, you can add a few large pieces of bogwood or smooth stones if you wish. Make sure you leave plenty of open space for swimming. Juveniles like hiding places in the form of swamps, tangles of roots and branches, piles of rocks, etc.
