Snapping Shrimp can form a symbiotic relationship with Curly-Que Anemones. It is found in a variety of colors and sizes. Cutter shrimp are not easily sexed, but males of many species are believed to have a larger nipper. The sound it makes comes from an appendage on the pincher that moves when the pincher is opened or closed and water is ejected. The Snapping Shrimp can easily be confused with the Mantis Shrimp if judged on sound alone. Unlike the Praying Mantis Shrimp, it is not harmful and poses no threat in the tank, with the possible exception of smaller shrimp.
The name Symbiotic Shrimp comes from the equally beneficial relationship that Snapping Shrimp can form with gobies, anemones, sponges or corals (eg Amblyeleotris or Stonogobiops). Shrimp share their food with other species.

Beneficial for the aquarium! They stir up the sand and thrive in exactly these environments with sandy, rocky caves and low light. When kept in pairs, one usually stands guard in the burrow while the other is inside. Intolerant of high levels of copper or nitrate, but needs the correct level of iodine in the water to promote proper molting.

Snapping Shrimp will accept any freeze-dried and frozen meaty food and pellets or pellets for bottom feeders.
