What You See Is What You Get

Stylophora

Stylophora is a small-polyp stony coral (SPS) that grows in a branching manner, from the Pocilloporidae Family. It is commonly referred to as Cat's Paw Coral. While not one of the most commonly seen SPS corals, except for the lilac coloration commonly referred to as milka, like chocolate, they are a great addition to any high light and high flow reef system. Please see below for more care tips for Stylophora.

Location

Indo-Pacific: islands in the Indo-Pacific, including Fiji, Tonga, the Solomon Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef.

Lighting

Medium to strong lighting is recommended to achieve the best coloration for Stylophoras. Stylophoras will display their best coloration when kept under high-intensity LEDs.

Low light

Low light is between 30 and 50 PARs per unit area

Medium light

Medium light is between 50 - 150 PARs per unit area

Strong light

Intense light is above 150 PAR per unit area

Water Flow

Strong water circulation is recommended. Stylophoras are typically found in nature in areas of very strong current. As the colony grows, it is important for it to receive good water flow to the inner part of the colony, as otherwise, that area may stagnate or even begin to become ill.

Feeding

Like most SPS, Stylophora is highly dependent on its zooxanthellae for feeding, but it also feeds on phytoplankton and similarly sized microfauna present in the water column.
