Rotala rotundifolia 'Orange Juice'
⦿

Mais informação

Rotala sp. ‘Yao Yai’ is a striking stem aquatic plant prized for its colourful foliage and vertical growth. Under good lighting, its thin leaves take on vibrant pink, orange-red, or reddish tones, making it a standout choice for midground or background planting in planted aquaria. Originating from Asia, this variety is closely related to Rotala rotundifolia and combines elegance with relatively easy care.

This plant grows fairly quickly, forming bushy clumps of stems that branch readily. While it can survive under moderate lighting, higher light and nutrient supply (especially iron) lead to more intense coloration. CO₂ supplementation greatly improves growth rate and colour but isn’t strictly required for basic survival. Regular trimming helps maintain a compact shape and encourages more branches.

Ideal Parameters for Rotala sp. ‘Yao Yai’

Lighting Moderate to high
Temperature 22-28 °C
pH 6.0-7.5
Water hardness (GH) Soft to moderate (≈ 3-10 °dGH)
CO₂ Recommended for best colour (medium level)
Nitrates / Nutrient Levels Good supply; especially iron and macro nutrients important
Growth Rate Fast
Maximum Height 30-50 cm (depending on conditions)
Placement in Aquarium Midground to background
Propagation Stem cuttings (replant side shoots or trimmed top portions)

Care Tips:

  • Provide strong lighting to enhance the red/pink/orange tones of the leaves — the stronger the light, the better the coloration.
  • Maintain nutrient-rich substrate and regular fertilisation; deficiencies (especially iron) lead to duller, more greenish leaves.
  • Use CO₂ injection if possible to boost growth rate and overall health.
  • Trim regularly from the top or midstem to encourage bushiness and prevent legginess.
